Marcus MillerYWCA Resource Development Committee#ONAMISSION since January 2020.How did you first get involved at the YWCA?I donated to the YWCA in 2015, and have continued to be involved.Who is the woman you look up to the most and why?

My grandmother. She grew up in a time when the color of her skin held her back way more than it does today. She raised four kids through it, while dealing with multiple husbands along the way. She has always been a guiding light for me, and even had to adopt me when I was younger. She started motherhood all over again after all of her kids were out of the house.

What are you most proud of in your work with the YWCA?I am proud of just being able to be a part of such a passionate community of people who stand up for the women that I have championed and admired my entire life.What is one thing you’ve learned in your time on the Resource Development committee?Don't be afraid to share your ideas, no matter how different they may be. Having different people in the room requires them all to share their different views for it to be a success.What drives you to do this work?I'm black, and believe women are the best thing about us. The most pressing challenge I see for this area is for people to not be afraid of visiting the other side of town and talking with each other. We need to be holding each other more accountable when it comes to violence.What do you like to do for fun?

I am a father, husband, coach and mentor. I also love watching any level of basketball.

Who do you look up to or feel inspired by within the YWCA?Cam Cameron is someone I admire. They are unapologetic about who they are, and I love that about them.Any other words of wisdom?I love being a part of this group and this community!Thank you, Marcus!Marcus' passion and commitment embody our mission by "getting up and doing the work."
