Meet Rachel Grollmes, CSE Public Education Coordinator

The YWCA Center for Safety and Empowerment provides free, confidential, comprehensive services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking in Northeast Kansas. A crucial part of our work to support survivors is raising awareness of gender-based violence throughout the community. That's where Rachel Grollmes comes in! Rachel is our new CSE Public Education Coordinator, and she can't wait to meet the local professionals, faith communities, students, law enforcement officers, and others who play an essential role in this work!

Rachel grew up in Topeka and recently graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Communications, a minor in Spanish, and a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership. During her time in Manhattan, she volunteered at the Crisis Center, Inc., which provides domestic violence and sexual assault services. We're so excited to have Rachel join our team!

What drew you to YWCA Northeast Kansas as a place you might want to work?

I was drawn to YWCA because of our mission - to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The YWCA is an organization that not only promotes these ideas but actively works towards them. Now, I look forward to educating the public and bringing awareness to human trafficking, sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking in our community.

Who is your favorite feminist icon?

Emma Watson! I admire how she has used her fame and privilege to speak about equity for all people.

What do you do to take care of yourself?

I love trying new food, watching comedy movies, and hanging out with my partner and our two cats Artemis and Strange.

What is one of your goals as the Public Education Coordinator?

My main goal as the Public Education Coordinator is simply to reach more people and make them aware of our services. You never know when you or someone you love might need them.

What message would you like to share with anyone thinking of getting involved with YWCA/CSE?

For anyone seeking our services, I want you to know that our advocates and staff are incredibly kind and well-trained to help guide you. One thing I love about our organization is that we operate from a standpoint of radical empowerment. This means the victim/survivor is the expert on their situation, so we will meet them where they are, follow their lead, and provide choice every step of the way.
