From story time to play time, the staff at the YWCA Early Learning Center are hard at work every day creating a safe, nurturing environment for our littlest community members to thrive. YWCA Northeast Kansas knows that affordable, high quality childcare is the cornerstone of a strong community, and we are committed to empowering women and families who rely on the ELC so that they can provide for their families and grow in their careers.
Meet the ELC Team

The ELC team’s fearless leader is Nevaeh Edwards, former lead toddler teacher who is now the Early Childhood Education Director. She is an avid learner, a calming presence for the kids, and a constant source of positivity and support for her staff. Interested in enrolling your child? Contact Nevaeh by calling 785-233-1750.
All ELC staff recently took a few days for professional development and team-building, and we asked them to share what they love about working at the YWCA Early Learning Center:
“I love being with the kiddos and watching them grow!” -Ms. JJ, Assistant Teacher
“I love working with the children and helping them learn!” -Mrs. Ashley, Lead Teacher
“I love when I hear my name screamed out loud in the morning when I enter the room!” -Mr. T, Assistant Teacher
“I love watching the kids learn and grow, seeing them talk and interact with each other!” -Ms. Brooke, Toddler Teacher
“I appreciate our respectful, loving, and caring staff!” Ms. Patricia, Lead Teacher Pre-K
“I love all the laughter, hugs, and community feel in our ELC!” -Dawn Galbreath, Youth Services Director

More about the ELC
The Early Learning Center has three classrooms:
- Toddler room for ages 1+ and walking
- Transition room for older toddlers working on potty training
- Preschool/Pre-K
In the classrooms, students not only meet rigorous early learning standards, but staff nurtures their whole selves through a curriculum combination including “Love and Logic,” “Teaching Strategies” and Baby Sign Language. Parents notice a real difference when their little ones come to the ELC. Dawn Galbreath, Youth Services Director, recently shared a story from a parent who told her that their child loves preschool so much that they rearranged their bedroom at home “how Ms. Patricia would like it.”
We want our families to know that when their children are with us, they are valued and loved just like at home!
