Week Without Violence

Week Without Violence is part of a global movement to end violence against women and girls with YWCAs across the country and around the world. At YWCA Northeast Kansas, we know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally. That’s why we set aside the third week in October as a Week Without Violence, when we focus on ending gender-based violence, including domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and harassment.

2026 Events: October 19-23

  • Kickoff Day

    Monday, October 19

    All day!

    Join YWCA Northeast Kansas, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, and the Center for Safety and Empowerment in wearing purple as we celebrate the start of a week dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence, supporting survivors, and connecting our community with resources. Through education, storytelling, outreach, and collective action, we can help build a community where everyone can live free from violence.

  • Ichabods Speak Out Against Domestic Violence

    Tuesday, October 20

    Engage in learning and conversation through activities at Washburn University, including an Introduction to Domestic Violence training and the Ichabods Speak Out poetry reading. A national virtual event featuring a screening of Watch You Rise will offer another opportunity to reflect on survivor experiences and the role each of us can play in creating change.

  • Bring Awareness Into the Conversation

    Wednesday, October 21

    Watch for opportunities to hear from YWCA about domestic violence, available services, and ways to support survivors. Proposed appearances through several media channels, subject to station availability. We will also share information online to help spread awareness and invite the community to Friday’s rally.

  • Outreach Day: A Five-County Effort

    Thursday, Oct 22

    Awareness and support must reach beyond a single event or location. YWCA will distribute outreach kits to libraries, educational institutions, and other community partners across Shawnee, Brown, Jackson, Nemaha, and Wabaunsee counties. Kits will include bathroom mirror clings, Center for Safety and Empowerment brochures, and information to help partners connect people with support.

  • Annual March & Rally

    Friday, October 23

    11:30am

    Close the week with a community rally featuring speakers, resource tables hosted by local organizations, and a community lunch. Gather with neighbors and partners to show support for survivors, learn about available resources, and strengthen our shared commitment to preventing domestic violence.
